Ease Of Use: 3/5
The instructions are not very clear on how to properly assemble the straw to begin filtering water. I had to tinker around for a bit before learning where to put in the filter.
Flow Rate: 3/5
The Pure Water Straw – Advanced is not as easy to drink from as the other water filter straws I reviewed. Considerable effort was needed to get water flowing and it still took a lot of effort afterwards to get water flowing continuously.
The Pure Water Straw – Advanced neutralized the taste of foul tasting water, however it still left a minor aftertaste in my mouth. The aftertaste tasted metallic and I assumed that this is due to the iodine that is used as the filter.
The Pure Water Straw – Advanced is priced at a very appealing price point. At $12.50, you can remove 99.99% of bacteria & viruses for up to 25 gals.
The Pure Water Straw – Advanced is a decent water filter. This is why I placed it in the middle of my list. It is made by Seychelle and is relatively cheaper than the other personal water filters that are using Seychelle technology. This is one of the reasons why I placed the Pure Water Straw – Advanced higher on the list than the other water filters that use Seychelle technology.
One thing I noticed right away when I received the product was that it came with a carabiner. This was different as other personal water filters usually come with a lanyard or something similar. This made having a carabiner included with the Pure Water Straw – Advanced a nice touch. It made carrying it around that much easier.
Now, lets talk about the technical specs of the Pure Water Straw – Advanced. I was pleased with the price of the product retailing for $12.50. I find that this is a good price point for a decent product that is filtering at 2 microns. Remember, usually most bacteria & protozoa are smaller than 2 microns. There’s iodine in it, which should kill the bacteria, however I’m not sure how I will know when the iodine runes out. Consider if it does 25 gallons, then you can use it for 25 days.
